主讲人简介
Sarah Cox, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, is a rising 2L at William & Mary Law School. For her undergrad, she majored in Political Science and Classics and minored in Religious Studies. After undergrad, Sarah worked as a personal injury paralegal for three years before returning to law school to obtain her Juris Doctorate. While at William & Mary, she participated in and competed with the International Competition Team and was selected to join the Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice.
Lily Frautschi is a rising second-year law student at William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia. She grew up in Houston, Texas, attending a French International school until college, where she studied Russian and History at the University of Virginia. Before coming to law school, Lily was a foster parent at Casa de Esperanza in Houston, Texas, where she cared for 19 children overall. She is currently focusing on children’s rights and juvenile defense in her studies.
Cameron Mercer is a rising 2L at Wake Forest University School of Law. Cameron graduated from UNC Charlotte and majored in History. While an undergraduate, he wrote two legal research papers, “Chinese-American Legal Challenges Prior to the Exclusion Act” and “The Development of Tort Law in the 19th Century.” He has interests in U.S. tax law, U.S. regulatory law, and laws impacting refugees, migrants, and minors.
主题介绍
In this discussion, these three law students will present a brief look into the minimum age of criminal responsibility and a comprehensive discussion in the United States and abroad. In this presentation, we will cover subjects concerning the American legal system generally discussing fundamental topics such as federalism and the concept of positive and negative rights. We will also present an overview of juveniles and the criminal system which will cover the historical background and provide context of the current relationship between juveniles and the justice system. Eventually, this will culminate and cover the ongoing debates in the American legal world regarding the minimum age of criminal responsibility. We will also briefly cover this topic as it stands in the larger international community and China. Join these three American students as they present this contentious topic and open the floor for questions and conversation on Thursday, July 4th at 5 pm.
在本次讨论中，三名致诚实习生将简要介绍美国的刑事责任年龄制度，并结合国外立法进行全面梳理。第一部分讨论聚焦美国法律制度，涵盖联邦制、积极权利、消极权利等基本主题。第二部分将介绍青少年与刑事体系的概况、历史背景，并提供青少年与司法系统当前关系的背景。最后，引出当下美国法律界关于刑事责任年龄的持续辩论，并简要讨论这一主题在更广泛的国际社会和中国的现状。讨论将于7月4日17点举行，并欢迎提问和对话。
